SYNERGY INTERNATIONAL SYSTEMS PROVIDES ITS IDM PORTAL PLATFORM ON OPEN SOURCE BASIS TO YEREVAN STATE UNIVERSITY

Official launch of IDM Portal Open Source Edition to be presented at the

European Regional Open Source Conference & Workshops in Yerevan, Armenia

Yerevan, RA, June 26, 2004 – Synergy International Systems, Inc., a US software company operating in

Armenia through its Yerevan subsidiary – Synergy International Systems / Armenia, and specializing in

integrated, web-enabled solutions for improved process performance, information management and business

intelligence, today announced it is providing its commercial grade IDM Portal technology on an Open Source

basis to the Yerevan State University (YSU) for the redesign and redevelopment of the YSU Web-Site. It is the

first collaborative project within the Program of Academic Cooperation between Synergy International Systems

and Yerevan State University, which started in March, 2004.

Synergy’s leading edge Intelligent Data Manager™ (IDM) Portal software enables the creation and deployment

of a wide-range of interconnected, dynamic Web Portals with unified functionality and user interface

personalization, powerful content management features, high interoperability and compatibility, direct

information exchange, multilingual support, advanced security, administration and user management functions.

To support community and social sector development and to assist public and government organizations in their

IT-related efforts, Synergy is providing IDM Portal (core version) on an Open Source Software basis. IDM

Portal Open Source Edition will be made available under the GNU General Public License (GPL). Official

launch of IDM Portal Open Source Edition will take place at the European Regional Open Source Conference &

Workshops to be held on June 28-30, 2004 in Yerevan, Armenia.

Yerevan State University in Armenia is the first to deploy the IDM Portal Open Source Edition for the YSU

Academic Cooperation Platform. This dynamic portal will be used for scientific research, applied software

development and academic exchange between YSU professors and students.

The new YSU web site will provide comprehensive, dynamic and easy to access information about the

university, its faculty and academic life, and is equipped with advanced search, news service, forums, photo

galleries, and a site map. The IDM Portal OS platform ensures distributed content management, collaboration

and workflow management along with high security and straight-forward administration.

Within the Program of Academic Cooperation with YSU, Synergy has conducted advanced seminars and

certification training on Open Source and IDM-based Web Portal Development for YSU students. Based on the

initial certification results, a team of best-performers has been selected for further development of the YSU

Web-Site using Synergy’s Open Source Software. With on-going technical support and consulting from Synergy

developers, student teams have been able to fully redesign and redevelop the YSU web site based on the IDM

Portal OS platform.

Initial content has been already transferred and posted to the new YSU website. Certified students will further

train the content team and dedicated faculty members from different departments for ongoing, distributed

content management. The web site administrator will receive advanced training and on-going technical support

from Synergy. The Pilot version of the new YSU web site has been presented to YSU faculty and administration,

and has received highly appreciative acceptance and positive feedback. Official launch of new YSU web-site is

planned for September, 2004.

This first collaborative project comes to prove that there are real grounds, high socio-economic value and great

potential for improved and extended collaboration between private business and educational system. The value

of student’s involvement and active participation is very important particularly for Open Source movement.

More than 20 YSU students have been awarded Synergy Certification as System Administrators for IDM Portal

Open Source. IDM Portal OS has been heavily tested and feedback reports have been submitted by YSU

students. The objective is for the trained students to become active members of the IDM Portal OS Community

and to participate in other open source projects as well, making a lasting and voluntary contribution to the

development of the open source movement in general.

Moreover, about 10 best-performing students will receive additional training at Synergy’s Yerevan office during

a Summer Internship program. With this successful initiative, Synergy is planning to continue its close

cooperation with YSU, providing Advanced Training on IDM Portal Open Source Customization and

Development, and will consider the enrollment of distinguished students in its on-going and future projects, with

prospective career opportunities in the software development industry.
